eLEAF is a Netherlands-based high-tech company that supplies reliable, quantitative data on water and vegetation on any land surface to support sustainable water use, increase food production, and protect environmental systems. eLEAF is active worldwide and has completed projects in over 30 countries. We closely work with partners that are at the forefront of new developments in food security and water productivity. This enables us to deal with challenges and problems the moment they arise and develop a structural solution for it. eLEAF’s product offering is targeted at the entire agri-business value chain ranging from farmers to food processors as well as non-profit organisations, public institutions, and governments.

eLEAF’s mission is to be the global reference in supply of reliable data on water and vegetation on any land surface to support sustainable water use, increase food production, and protect environmental systems.

The Satellite based ICTs for improved crop production in the Gezira irrigation scheme is a one year project funded by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) through its “Building Viable Delivery Models for ICT4Ag” initiative and being implemented by eLEAF and Hydraulic Research Centre (HRC), Sudan. The project aims at setting up a demand driven irrigation advisory service for farmers in the Gezira irrigation scheme in Sudan that conveys satellite based information on agricultural water use via mobile phone text-messages and a web portal. 44 Farmers were selected for this pilot testing for the pilot period covering the 2014/2015 winter season crops viz. wheat, chickpea and onions.  The service contributed not only to a better understanding on how to optimise water use for irrigation in order to increase food production, but actually increased production during the pilot period.
